5 Reviews of the Halo 104

By: Dazzladee  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:

We have used our Halo 104 5/6 times with 2 small kids and it still looks brand new. Out of all the tents we looked at it is far the best, lots of space and storage. We all sleep it the two 2men rooms that make into one four man room. Living area is around 10footx10foot. We have used it in wind and rain and had no leeks or sleepless nights from it flapping around in the wind. All the pegs and guylines takes me around 30 mins just to secure it down. We paid just over £700 and worth it

I recently bought a halo 104 from go out doors we liked the look of it the first time we saw it. The colour of the tent green and cream makes it light and pleasant inside, lights do not need switching on till the last bit of daylight. Plenty of storage pockets to put things in. Four large pods 2 x triple pods and 2 x double pods that can be opened up to a four person pod.Not too bad for putting up pitched 3 times now and got it water proof within 20 mins. We have had rain and strong wind over our 3 trips and had no problems at all. It is a well made tent and would recommend this tent to anyone.

As with previous comments this is a well designed and made tent. Everything has gone into it to make the most of space and storage. I have also got 2 x 1 metre porch extensions on the front which opens it up considerably and we make this a kitchen area with fridge and cupboard space with chairs and work surfaces.(gives the idea of how big this tent is).

The only thing I would say is that this is not a weekend tent unless there is plenty of people to erect and take down who knows what they are doing, just too big. If your going for a week or two then this bungalow! is the best there is.

Bought the tent from GoOutdoors at a very reasonable price (website showed out of stock but after some enquiries found it in stock at our local store)

Putting Up

Simple enough - colour coded poles into matching colour sleeves. Inner goes up first, Fly sheet over that and peg everything down. We put the tent up for the first time in about an hour, of which the majority of time would have been pegging it down. Inner pitching could be an issue in the rain however that is a choice/risk made at the time of purchase. We estimate that you could get it up to the point where it is waterproof in 15-20 min with some practice. Pitching instructions could be a lot clearer especially with regards pegging everything down There are a few guy ropes that I dont feel are necessary and have joined my spares kit. When you spend upwards of £300 you would expect better documentation, not a generic booklet that gives vague pitching instructions for every tent in their range

Weathering

Wet

We had some rain during our trip but no leaks. Not having a SIG in the porch area means that the rain that invariably comes in through the entrance drains away We had noticed this while viewing tents on a rainy day, many of the tents we went into had a puddle of water at the entrance but not the halo, this was a factor in our decision to buy the halo.

Wind

Didn't really have strong winds on our trip but with the number of guy ropes and with the weight of the tent it felt really secure and we don't anticipate any problems

Kids

We have two kids aged 5 & 2 and after three days of being run around in, jumped and pulled on and tripped over, the tent came through with out any damage.Yet

Space

Yes you could easily fit 14 people (adults) in the tent and still have room to squeeze one or two more. It is more of a pavilion than a tent. During the rainy periods the kids had loads of room to run around and drive us crazy

Utility

The tent comes in green or blue, after having viewed a blue tent we were slightly disappointed to find only green ones in stock but once it was up it really wasn't an issue.

There are built in tent tidy's in each corner and pockets either side of the bedroom pod's doors. These are really useful for stashing the bits and bobs that you use regularly.

There are tabs for hooking up lighting and a couple of velcro tabs going up the side & roof from the EHU entrance zipper as a kind of cable tidy. We didnt actually use our lighting as the white roof kept the main room bright until late in the evening.

The mesh doors mean that you can keep the bugs at bay from both the bedroom pods and the main living area and still have some ventilation although it can get quite hot during the day.

Packing away

It comes down easy enough but the flysheet being waterproof means it also holds loads of air when folding (something to keep in mind) It fits into the bag with a little bit of wrestling but that could just be the way we folded it.

Overall

For a family of four it is admittedly a bit of overkill but we do so enjoy that space. The space is of course paid for in weight. The tent is heavy but having the poles in a separate bag does help ease the burden.

I think a lot of thought went into the design and well done to the designers but perhaps terra nova neglects the wild country range in favour of its own range so no follow through of quality for pitching instructions, documentation etc

I would definitely recommend this tent to prospective buyers

Bought one of these tents a couple of weeks ago having never been camping before. It is Brilliant.

This tent is so easy to erect the first time we tried it in the garden and it was up within an hour, not bad for a first time ever erecting a tent! The second time on the camp site we more than halved that to 25 min. The tent is huge, loads of space in both the bedrooms and the living area. Lots of very useful pockets for storing items in. My only moan would be the porch area, when you use the supplied poles you can turn the door into an awning, this could have been higher, just found it a little annoying constantly ducking your head as you walk through. But this tent gets 10 out of 10 from us. It looks like the millennium dome at night with the lights on! lol
